Autobytel: the next stop ?
But Autobytel, which has still not reached the final
stage of its transformation, faces the real challenge
now. It doesn't sell direct, but is able to meets its
customers' needs by putting them in contact with dealers.
An analysis of one of Usenet's newsgroups with Dejanews-http://www.dejanews.com
shows that not all customers are entirely satisfied with
the existing service; a good number of them would prefer
the whole negotiation to be done automatically, so that
they would have only to collect their vehicle from the
dealer. They would like to be able to find the best deals
quickly. Personally, I can't stand car salesmen, because
it's always difficult to negotiate, and by using a dealer
I always get the impression that the salesman hasn't offered
me the best deal. I'd like to find an Autobytel on Internet
which would do that for me. The logical thought progression
is that there is room for an Acses-type agent for selling
cars ; I'd go for it, but the die-hards refuse to believe
it : cars will never be sold entirely by Internet. Seeing
as it was these same people who said only a few years
ago that Internet would only be used to sell low-value
good, their opinion doesn't bother me !
Autobytel should also concentrate on the dealers' needs,
as they are also its customers. Keeping the dealers happy
is one of its main early preoccupations. In fact, a small
but significant number of dealers who joined Autobytel
in the beginning have decided to go it alone on Internet
by betting everything on their own site. This is particularly
true of the large groups of independent dealers, which
are extremely powerful in the States. The development
of customer loyalty and an improved service to its dealers
it one of the keys to the future success of Autobytel,
faced with the development of competitors such as Autoadvantage,
